Sarah Bohrer MD

Board Certified Pediatrician

Dr. Sarah Bohrer is a compassionate and experienced pediatrician with over 20 years of expertise. She became an expert in Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) out of necessity to support her own family. As a patient, parent, and provider, Dr. Bohrer is uniquely attuned to the challenges that EDS families face. This perspective has fueled her passion for helping patients and families through both her medical practice and advocacy efforts.

Dr. Bohrer’s approach to medicine has been profoundly shaped by personal experiences within her own family. When her teenager’s health deteriorated at age 13, Dr. Bohrer immersed herself in research and advocacy, guided by insights from a supportive online EDS community. This journey underscored the devastating effects of being misdiagnosed or dismissed and the critical need for knowledgeable, compassionate care. When her second child faced similar health challenges, their journey was smoother thanks to the knowledge they had gained and the strong medical team they had assembled. These experiences ignited Dr. Bohrer’s passion for supporting patients and families facing similar struggles.

In her medical practice, Dr. Bohrer specializes in supporting individuals and families navigating EDS, POTS, MCAS, and other complex chronic conditions. She has worked in diverse medical settings, including private practice, federally qualified health centers, urgent care, inpatient pediatrics, and residential mental health care. In her most recent role at a federally qualified health center, Dr. Bohrer provided care to underserved patients, particularly those living with chronic illnesses. Previously, she collaborated with renowned MCAS expert Dr. Anne Maitland, delivering care to complex EDS patients and their families.

Outside of her clinical practice, Dr. Bohrer is deeply involved in the EDS community as both an advocate and a patient. She has served as a medical ambassador and board member for The Coalition Against Pediatric Pain, leading educational outreach and creative activities for children with chronic pain. She has attended conferences with Dysautonomia International and the Ehlers-Danlos Society, participated in several Project ECHO EDS learning programs, and worked alongside leading experts in connective tissue disease comorbidities. Her involvement extends to patient communities, where she provides guidance and support to families navigating these complex conditions.

Dr. Bohrer earned her medical degree from SUNY Buffalo College of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and holds medical licenses in Connecticut, New York, and North Carolina.

Dr. Bohrer’s extensive clinical expertise, unwavering dedication to advocacy, and personal understanding of the challenges of EDS and its comorbidities have cemented her place as a deeply respected member of the community.
